This is a Limited Edition Digital Print for submission to the Bee Project, a theme based around ‘Bees’ partnered by Friends of the Earth for the launch of their Great British Bee Count.
This is entitled ‘Falling Rain on Unknown Bee in Striped…’and is the final work superimposed on the previous work of ‘Help FOTE Save Beez!’ (Help, Friends of the Earth, Save, Bees), and shows text of typically Four Letter words. This work depicts additional elements of a Red-Tailed Bee with a Gas mask, to prevent the Bee from inhaling the Pesticides when crop dusting, highlighted by FOTE. The Poppies are a reference to pre-War Britain, before pesticides were introduced into the food chain. The Poppies have also been arranged in a grid format with a hidden message in Binary Code (see below).
This work is a piece of Conceptual Art. The work follows a sequence of repetitive, lines, vertical, horizontal or diagonal, that is repeated, it conatins vertical text (typically four letter words or four letter syllables of words, have been inspired by Friends of the Earth publications, 20 things you need to know about bees, Iconic bees -12 UK bee species, Great British Bee Count etc.), the same colours of Pop Art, Sky & Water (these are standard colours that come pre-installed within Illustrator and have not been modified by the Artist). Given these it is possible for anyone to recreate this piece of work.
A secret massage is contained with the Red Poppies in the foreground by the using Binary Code. Binary code is used in computers and contains and is either On indicated by 1 or Off indicated by 0. A letter in the alphabet can be represented in Binary by the use of 8 Digits such for example the Letter, O is 01101111 in Binary. On the bottom far right hand corner the Letter, ‘O’ is represented vertically upwards with negative spaces as background (0 in Binary) as the background and positive spaces as by a Poppy Leaf in Red (1 in Binary)
