Description

Inspired by the negative stereotype of mental illness held by society.
What I was trying to do with this series, was to de-glamourise mental illness and to promote a sense of empathy and realization as to actually what defines mental illnesses. It’s not something you’re known as and its definitely not something you are. Being in a relationship with someone that suffers from mental illnesses, I was able to see the effects that these stereotypes society imposes on you the minute your diagnosed with a mental illness. It’s almost like its a branding. The person is no longer a person but now a disease and considered ‘crazy’ or has ‘issues’. Through my work I aimed to debunk that through symbolism and a sense of peacefulness within my images.
