Drawing Project: Robert Burns and the Giant Haggis

This drawing has been inspired by the Scottish Poet “Robert Burns” (1759-1796) and to celebrate Burn’s Night, tonight, 25th January 2018, and by the work by Nasmyth portrait of 1787 in the Scottish National Portriat Gallery (second last image).

In this version, I have replaced a the typical Oval of the Victorian/Gerogrian era with the shape of a Giant Haggis thats a tradition that’s eaten during Burn’s Night.

In the composition, I have used a drawing “scribble” technique, with Pop Art colours (suggesting Haggis is made of more modern sweet ingredients), giving a more Modern feel, with nod back to the past, opposite & contrasting, with the single line portrait of the black & white profile of “Robert Burns”.

This work has been inspired by the recent television programme, “The Big Painting Challenge” (on BBC One TV in the UK) in which amateur Artist would make Art with the aid of trained professionals.

This work is part of the Male Series from Retro Icons of film, music etc. from A to Z starting with “B”s as in “Robert Burns”
