Monkshood “Bite Me”
Medium:Fabric
Style:Feminist Art
Description

Whilst they may look fragile, delicate and accutely feminine in appearance, Monkshood flowers are highly poisonous and demand respect. Monkshood stand for being fearless – this piece is a reminder that there is more that meets the eye, no matter how we look, we all deserve respect.

Nicci James’s ‘Nasty Flowers’ series explores meanings which are not immediately obvious within ‘fragile’ objects associated with femininity. Women are too often defined by appearance and handicapped by the expectation of beauty. Using the largely forgotten symbolic meaning of flowers, this series attempts to explore how symbolic language could empower women and invoke a sense of community.
