MALIFICENT from sleeping beauty by MR.CENZ
In partnership with Brookfield, Creative Debuts commissioned the legendary mural artist and portrait painting perfectionist Mr Cenz to bring the protagonist of one of Potsdamer Platz’s past residents, The Brothers Grimm, to life on a gigantic acoustic hoarding in Berlin. Maleficent is an jaw dropping mural painted over 6 days and one of the very best examples of Mr Cenz’ artwork. The mural is celebrated alongside some of the many iconic murals in the city and shows that any surface can be used positively to impact not only the local community but an aritsts career.
Mr Cenz (aka Julian Phetean) is a London based graffiti artist who has been scribbling on surfaces since 1988.
His unique female portraits feature layers of intricate and flowing letterforms, shapes and line work, which are abstracted in a unique and aesthetically pleasing way. His style is full of funk and movement and fuses different all his different skills and influences. His work has been described as “surrealist graffiti art for the soul”.
His distinctive murals can now be seen all over the world from London to Las Vegas. He has painted at many festivals in unusual places like Tahiti, Azerbajan and Romania and continues to travel and paint on a regular basis.
Mr Cenz has created a historical mural in Manhattan for the centennial of the International Labour Organization (UN agency) with Street Art for Mankind.
