AS SMOOTH AS IT CAN BE
“ Working with Creative Debuts was an inspiring and uncomplicated experience, from the initial meeting, through brief development, and artist curation to the delivery of 2 large-scale, narrative-driven murals. Their in-depth knowledge, extensive artist network and insightful approach to execution was invaluable, while their can-do attitude made the project as smooth as it could be, despite the red tape and health & safety considerations associated with activating in a busy retail destination. ”

Reading River Birds by Curtis Hylton
To animate indoor space within The Oracle, Hammerson tapped into our network of exciting talent including local street artist Curtis Hylton. His new mural Reading River Birds celebrates Readings biodiversity and the birds found on the River Thames and Kennet. Each bird is beautifully composed of flowers including Roses, Magnolias, and Irises, reflecting his unique artistic style, while on closer inspection iconic Reading landmarks are hidden on the mural.
Curtis Hylton is a UK based artist, skilled in the art of large scale murals using spray paint and acrylic. With over 15 years experience, Curtis has taken his signature style of fusing flora and fauna across the UK, Europe and beyond.
Growing up in a family with a shared passion for the natural environment, it was a childhood spent in the wonder of woodland ecosystems that would later fuel the curiosity and inspiration of his work today.
The artist’s goal is to create artwork that highlights biodiversity and inspire cultural change in the way we engage with nature. To encourage others to spend time outdoors, to influence a new generation of environmentalists or to simply enable people to reflect on their personal connections with the natural world around them.

The continued focus on placemaking is integral to this and instrumental in changing the perception and purpose of our destinations, driving footfall and stronger levels of engagement. Street art is an engaging art form that talks directly to audiences, particularly a younger demographic, and we are excited to unveil these two pieces of artwork today.”
