"Trapped In Nostalgia" is an attempt to capture the stillness and energy of nostalgia - the fleeting illusion of it. I thought to approach this in a playful, energetic way portraying the idea and my subject simply without ridding them of their essence.
Sometime in 2020 when we were all in the same place, my two brothers and I went on short escapades during the weekends scouting locations for photographs – my elder brother directing, my big-little brother in front of the camera, and me working the camera. These days were absolutely wonderful bonding moments for us; nothing else mattered, just the triad looking to get a good photo.

About the artist
Lawrence Meju is a visual artist currently based in Lagos, Nigeria. His work is inspired by his fascination with abstraction, his interest in exploring his own life experiences, and his hunger to create surreal landscapes and mindscapes. He is currently studying Architecture at the University of Lagos and is very intentional about finding his nexus between art and architecture, both disciplines inspiring each other. He credits his parents for putting his first sheet of paper in front of him and also for their endless support. Being an artist is something he has known since he was a child, arts and craft classes excited him during the early years. He seeks to explore his ideas and creative styles no matter how mundane they may seem because seeing the big picture sometimes requires an intersection of so many ideas. Creating timeless pieces that spur discourse and inspire authenticity is something that is of importance to him.
